International study is an exciting experience, but to go forward you need to know more. You cannot simply apply to the school your friends are going to, you need to do a bit of digging to know something about the program you’ll be enrolling in, especially one abroad. Where do you start though? Many students would love to get more information on different education programs abroad. However they don’t know how to go about it or where to start. If you’re one of them, the following leads should help you.

– Online Searches

Everyone has access to the internet today. A simple Google or Bing search can get you get a basic idea of the different schools capable of meeting your requirements. You’ll get a list of various institutions based on what you search for – Best business schools in Asia, recognized engineering colleges in Canada and so on. For a successful Internet search, you have to determine what you’d like to gain from your study abroad.

– Reviews on Social Media

Your online search will take you to various foreign university websites, from there you can move on to their social media pages. If they don’t have any social media links or pages, check out their testimonials page. You can read students, parents and teachers reviews about the school. You won’t get a biased opinion this way. Take not of the positive and negative points you come across.

– Education Fairs

Many schools host education fairs, where the representatives of differentabroad universities come to enlighten students about their education options in countries abroad. Find out when your school will be hosting one or when other schools and institutes will be hosting one. Get a list of all the school representatives who will be attending. Look them up online and prepare a list of questions you’d like to ask them.

– Guidance Counsellor

If there aren’t any education fairs coming up any time soon, visit your school guidance counsellor. Ask him or her if they can help you in your search for more information. They could give you flyers and leaflets about different schools and their representatives in the country. You could also ask them for their opinion on the schools you have in mind.

– Students Who Have Studied Abroad

For completely honest information on studies abroad, your best bet is to ask students who have actually completed their studies abroad. You can ask them about their experience abroad, what to do and what not. They would be more than happy to guide you on what you need to be looking for and how to go about it.

– Summer Abroad

Spend your summer vacation abroad either in a study program (will help you gain extra credit) or on a holiday. This way you can visit a university of your choice and ask them about their program for foreign students and have a look at the facilities they are willing to offer. You can experience the surroundings and look for accommodation too while you’re there.

The purpose of gathering information is to help you make the right decision, so remember too much information isn’t a bad thing. Once you’ve collected all that you can find, you have to compare the details of different foreign universities. This will help you select the best one to suit your needs and help you grow.
